Charged with a Misdemeanor? Call Us!

Retain an Experienced Denton County Criminal Lawyer

Most criminal charges are classified as misdemeanors, which are more serious than infractions but carry less serious penalties than felonies. While they are not as serious as felonies, these cases should still be taken very seriously, as they can give you a criminal record and bring many other consequences.

When charged with any type of misdemeanor offense, your first step should be to call Derek A. Adame, Attorney at Law to speak with our experienced Denton County criminal defense lawyer. When you hire us, we quickly get to work putting together a defense strategy for your specific case. Since 1998, we have been able to successfully acquit countless clients. Our firm solely focuses on handling criminal cases, giving us the hands on experience needed to tackle any charges.

How are misdemeanors handled in Texas?

The longest jail sentence you could face for a misdemeanor is one year, with longer sentences being reserved for felony convictions. In Texas, misdemeanors are broken down into three classes: A, B, and C.

Class C misdemeanors are reserved for minor offenses such as:

  • Minor in possession of alcohol or tobacco
  • Public intoxication
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Simple assault
  • Shoplifting
  • Criminal trespass
  • Leaving a child in a vehicle

Penalties include a maximum of a $500 fine with no jail time. Class B misdemeanors carry up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000. Common charges include vandalism, harassment, evading arrest on foot, or a first-time DWI. Class A misdemeanors are the most serious, carrying up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine. A conviction for assault with injury, resisting arrest, or a second DWI can bring such a charge.

Our Denton County misdemeanor attorney can challenge any argument used by the prosecution in your defense. You must be proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt to be convicted, so let our firm fight hard to win your case and preserve your freedom and good name.
